GEORGE ROSS MEMORIAL GREENHOUSE

VISION STATEMENT

To provide New Hanover County residents with the educational experience of a working greenhouse.

GREENHOUSE RULES

·        The purpose of each display shall be to provide a basic horticultural education to the public generally as related to the use of a greenhouse.

·        Any person or group wanting to display plants in the George Ross Memorial Greenhouse must apply to the George Ross Memorial Greenhouse Committee for permission.  The Committee shall include at least one representative from the Arboretum staff.

·        Plants should be displayed for a set amount of time, typically six months to one year although some displays may be perpetual.

·        All plants must be identified with the plant’s common and scientific (botanical) names.  In addition, information must be provided noting desired light conditions and fertilization rates and general care.  Where appropriate the person or organization sponsoring the display or providing the plants should be indicated.

·        All plants must be healthy and free of insects and disease and must be maintained in such a state.

·        Each display shall have access to time controlled irrigation.  Once the displayer determines their irrigation requirements, they should submit that information to the George Ross Memorial Greenhouse Committee which will then implement that requirement.

·        The owners of the plants are responsible for watering and fertilizing and the general care of the plants.

·        There is to be no over wintering of any individual’s or group’s plants.  The only plants to be over wintered are to be for Hobby Greenhouse Club raffle associated with the Annual Greenhouse Tour.

·        A display not conforming to any of the above rules can be removed and returned to their owner(s) by the George Ross Memorial Greenhouse Committee.

·        The Hobby Greenhouse Club and the New Hanover County Arboretum are NOT responsible for the loss of any plants or equipment used in a display.  Plants in the George Ross Memorial Greenhouse are on display and are NOT kept under lock and key.

·        If you desire to apply to set up a display in the George Ross Memorial Greenhouse and agree to the above rules please contact:
