GEORGE ROSS MEMORIAL GREENHOUSE
VISION STATEMENT
To provide New Hanover County residents with the educational experience
of a working greenhouse.
GREENHOUSE RULES

The purpose of each display
shall be to provide a basic horticultural education to the public generally as
related to the use of a greenhouse.

Any person or group wanting
to display plants in the George Ross Memorial Greenhouse must apply to the
George Ross Memorial Greenhouse Committee for permission.
The Committee shall include at least one representative from the
Arboretum staff.
·
Plants should be displayed
for a set amount of time, typically six months to one year although some
displays may be perpetual.
·
All plants must be
identified with the plant’s common and scientific (botanical) names.
In addition, information must be provided noting desired light conditions
and fertilization rates and general care. Where
appropriate the person or organization sponsoring the display or providing the
plants should be indicated.

All plants must be healthy
and free of insects and disease and must be maintained in such a state.
·
Each display shall have
access to time controlled irrigation. Once the displayer determines their irrigation requirements,
they should submit that information to the George Ross Memorial Greenhouse
Committee which will then implement that requirement.
·
The owners of the plants
are responsible for watering and fertilizing and the general care of the plants.
·
There is to be no over
wintering of any individual’s or group’s plants.
The only plants to be over wintered are to be for Hobby Greenhouse Club
raffle associated with the Annual Greenhouse Tour.

A display not conforming to
any of the above rules can be removed and returned to their owner(s) by the
George Ross Memorial Greenhouse Committee.

The Hobby Greenhouse Club
and the New Hanover County Arboretum are NOT responsible for the loss of
any plants or equipment used in a display.
Plants in the George Ross Memorial Greenhouse are on display and are NOT
kept under lock and key.
