APRIL MEETING

The April meeting of the Hobby Greenhouse Club will be Tuesday, April 8th, at 7:30 PM at the Arboretum, 6206 Oleander Drive.

SPEAKER The speaker for April is Bill  Wilcox of the "Tidewater Camellia Club".  He will speak on air-layering Camellia techniques.  Air-layering is the most common technique for the hobbyist to propagate camellias.  Although this technique will be demonstrated on camellias, this techniques will work on azaleas and other plants.

DUES

Thank you very much for those of you who have paid your dues. If you have NOT paid your dues (by the April meeting) and are not selling plants at the sale,this will be the last newsletter you receive.  The dues are an important part of the Hobby Greenhouse Club activities.  The dues are needed to help fund the HCG scholarships and club events.  If you sold plants during 2007, we assume that you will be selling again this year and we will deduct your dues at that time.

HELP
Help is needed in April in several areas. Firstly, a volunteer is needed to be the  Summer Sale Chairperson who will  coordinate Club efforts before, during and after the sale.   Volunteers are needed to clean up Metts Av. Garden prior to the sale, the cleanup date is April 4th at 9 AM..  Volunteers are also needed during the Plant Sale for Cash register and carry-out plants duty.   Signup sheets will be available at the April meeting. This is the most important sale of the season , receipts from this sale will determine how many and at what value the scholarships will be.  Also needed is a volunteer to be in charge of the cleanup for the Spring after -sale dinner to be held at Metts Av. Garden on Saturday April 19th at 6:30PM.  We need volunteers to clean the greenhouse, chairs and tables, setup for the dinner and take down chairs and tables after the dinner.  Signup sheets will be available at the meeting.

SHARING

The plant "sharing" at the end of our meetings has proven very popular.  If you have any plants, cuttings, bulbs, seeds, roots, or anything else garden related even old magazines or catalogues, bring them to the meeting and set them on the table in the back of the room to share with other club members.  This will allow you to purge some of your extra stock and allow other people to increase the diversity of their plants.  Do not be hesitant to take some things even if you have nothing to share at this time.

Hobby Greenhouse Club

If you are interested in a friendly garden club, the Hobby Greenhouse Club may be what you are looking for.  We meet once a month all year long on the normally on the second Tuesday and generally at the NHC Arboretum Auditorium, 6206 Oleander Drive.  We have a guest speaker on a horticultural topic or a topic of general interest to our membership.  Please feel free to join us for an interesting evening.  Guests are welcome at all our activities.  You do not have to own a greenhouse to be a member (approximately 1/3 of our members do), just a love of your garden and a passion for your plants.  We look forward to seeing you at our plants sale.
